Manimahesh Lake, set at an altitude of 3,950 meters on the base of Manimahesh Kailash Peak
Manimahesh Lake is a high altitude lake situated close to the Manimahesh Kailash Peak in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, in the Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
Day 01 : Mcleodganj to Kareri village (1900mts), 13 kms trek
The first 6 kms of the trek is through a small lake. Tibetan Children village, Satobary. From Satobary a wide trail descends to Ghera through thick forestation and then cross Gaj river and Kareri stream. Steady climb to Kareri village from Ghera. Night stay in forest rest house or in tents.
Day 02 : Kareri village to Kareri lake (3200mts), 12kms trek
Trek goes along Kareri nallah (stream). The lake is situated at the base of Minkiani pass and has beautiful high altitude meadows and pasture land.
Day 03 : Kareri lake - Minkiani pass - Minkiani Jot (3500mts), 9 kms trek
Four to five hour ascent takes to the top of the pass. In early summer one has to walk over snow and needs good technical skill. After the monsoon the snow melts and the the trail is visible. The weather is unpredictable here. From the pass, the trail descends down to the Minkiani jot through big boulders. In early summers these boulders remain covered by deep snow. The trek terminates at Minkiani Jot where few rock caves and a beautiful ground is there to pitch out the tents for the night stay.
Day 04 : Minkiani Jot - Lam Dal lake (3900mts), 10kms trek
Lam Dal, the biggest lake in Dauladhar range is considered as the adobe of Lord shiva and is sacred to the local folks. On way to Lam Dal is Kali Kund (a small lake shaped like a well and surrounded by rising hills).
Day 05 : Minkiani Jot - Drakund (1800mts), 15kms trek
From Lam Dal the trek descends down the valley along Lam Dal stream. Night stay at Drakund rest house surrounded by apple orchards.
Day 06 : Drakund - Dunnali, 9 kms - Bharmaur (2195mts), .40kms
It takes about two hour to reach Dunali on the main Chamba Bharmaur road. The villages are sheltered but linked with each other.
Day07 : Bharmaur (2195mts)
Day at leisure. Visit ancient Churasi temples, night stay in a guesthouse in Bharmaur.
Day 08 : Bharmaur - Hadsar - Dhancho (2440mts)
Bharmaur to Hadsar is 17 kms motor able, Hadsar to Dhancho is about 8 kms. Steep ascent. Dhancho is the base camp for the trekkers`en route Manimahesh lake. Gauri Nallah forms a huge waterfall at Dhancho. Night stay in tents.
Day 09 : Dhancho - Manimahesh lake (4115mts), Dhancho 15kms
From Dhancho a big trail steep up to 5 kms to Gauri Kund is gradual ascent for 2.5 kms to Manimahesh lake. Manimahesh is a glacial lake situated at at the base of Mount kailash and is the highest lake in Dhauladhar and Pir Panjal ranges and is regarded a sacred lake in local mythology. Thousands of people go to pilgrimage to the lake every year and back to in Augest. Lunch at the lake and back to Dhancho for night stay.
Day10 : Dhancho - Bharmaur
Night stay in guest from Bharmaur buses, jeeps available for Chamba Dharamshala.
